New Haven Union Station Shuttle Offers Expanded Hours and Free Service to the Green
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) announced today enhancements to the free weekday shuttle which connects rail passengers using Union Station to additional off-site parking locations, including the Temple Street Garage and the parking lot at the former Coliseum site. All shuttle trips now extend to the New Haven Green, creating easy connections to all other CTTRANSIT local bus routes in New Haven. Additionally, the shuttle operates throughout the day. Previously, the shuttle was only available during morning and evening commute times. The enhancements to this route were implemented on August 31st.
“These changes will help passengers access Connecticut’s rail resources in New Haven,” said Joseph F. Marie, Commissioner of the Department of Transportation. “For departing rail passengers it makes additional parking convenient, and for arriving passengers it opens up the entire Greater New Haven area served by CTTRANSIT.”
“We encourage residents and employees to use rail services and buses whenever possible in lieu of driving to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a greener and cleaner New Haven. The expansion of this shuttle service will help to facilitate increased rail use in New Haven,” said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. “Not only does this enhanced service make it easier for people to get in and out of the City during the week, but this also creates a more inviting environment for businesses and events.”
The Union Station Shuttle is funded by ConnDOT and operated by CTTRANSIT. The shuttle operates continuously every 20 minutes, from 6:10AM until 10:15PM, Monday through Friday. The route runs from Union Station on Union Avenue, up North Frontage Road, Orange Street, Church Street, Chapel Street, Temple Street, George Street and State Street. It then heads back on Union Avenue to Union Station.
