Governor Rell Announces Free
Rail Parking Shuttle in New Haven
Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that a free rail parking shuttle service to New Haven’s Union Station has been implemented. The rail parking shuttle route serves the new parking lot at the former site of the New Haven Coliseum, the Temple Street parking garage and Union Station.
“This is just one of many ways we are trying to make it easier to use Connecticut’s rail system,” Governor Rell said. “Although the Coliseum site is only about two blocks from the station, the shuttle will be a great convenience to rail passengers carrying baggage or during inclement weather.”
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) has worked with CTTRANSIT to operate a shuttle route to and from the Temple Street parking garage for several years as a result of parking capacity issues at Union Station. The new routing of the shuttle takes the bus down George Street where Coliseum lot parkers can get a ride to the station. The shuttle operates weekdays only, departing from the Temple Street Garage every 15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and departing every 15 minutes from Union Station from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. More information about the operation of the shuttle is available by visiting www.cttransit.com or by calling CTTRANSIT New Haven Division at (203) 624-0151.
The lot at the former site of the New Haven Coliseum has a capacity of more than 600 spaces and is approximately two blocks from the station at the corner of Orange Street and North Frontage Road. Primary access to the lot is from Orange Street immediately off Route 34, Exit 1. Parking rates are $8 per day (6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and $105 for monthly parking. The lot is operational 24 hours per day on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
