Governor Rell Announces Formal Search
For Bradley Airport Administrator

            Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that a national search for a permanent Administrator for Bradley International Airport has been launched. The airport, located in Windsor Locks, serves 7 million passengers annually and contributes $4 billion each year to the Connecticut economy.

            “Bradley today is one of the Northeast’s top airports and it continues to undergo dramatic change for the better – most recently the addition of daily nonstop international service,” Governor Rell said. “Bradley is also a major economic driver for our state and the region, and I expect the new Administrator to continue to enhance its reputation for service and dedication to tourists and business travelers, as well as numerous mail and freight-based businesses.”

            With recent – and ongoing – terminal and other service expansions, Bradley International Airport is New England’s second-largest airport and handles 250 commercial flights per day. It is operated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) and was ranked fifth in the country among small airports in overall customer satisfaction in the 2007 North America Airport Satisfaction Study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates.

DOT Commissioner Ralph J. Carpenter noted that Bradley’s contribution to Connecticut’s economic activity includes $1.2 billion in wages and 18,000 full-time jobs. It also serves as a base for the Army and Air National Guard.

            State Aviation Administrator Stephen E. Korta II agreed earlier this year to serve as Airport Administrator at Bradley on an interim basis while the search for a permanent Administrator is conducted. Commissioner Carpenter said the process would be “comprehensive and meticulous” and said it would be completed as quickly as possible, but declined to estimate how long it would take.

            In addition to sending the job specifications to airport officials around the country encouraging them to apply or forward it to others, ads will be placed in various trade publications and posted on the website of the Department of Administrative Services, which oversees all state hiring.

            The position will pay in the range of $108,730 to $139,467.
