CLICK IT OR TICKET - MAY MOBILIZATION

You are invited to attend the press conference announcing the "Click It or Ticket" campaign to be held May 11, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Department of Transportation ( DOT), 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, in Conference Rooms A & B.

From May 14, through June 3, 2007, state and local law enforcement agencies will be working collaboratively with the Department to conduct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) National Enforcement Mobilization. The message is simple: "Click It or Ticket."

For this concentrated period and during the remainder of 2007, the Department and law enforcement agencies will be working together to ensure that motorists are educated about the risks and associated consequences of riding unrestrained or improperly restrained in a motor vehicle. In 2005, 55 percent of the passenger vehicle fatalities were unrestrained and 68 percent of 13-15 year olds killed were unrestrained. Most motorists already know that wearing safety belts is the law. This campaign will be a reminder that everyone needs to wear their safety belt -- every trip, every time; "IT'S THE LAW - CLICK IT OR TICKET."

The press conference will include representatives from the Department, NHTSA, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Motor Carriers, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and local law enforcement.
