DOT to Recruit for Multiple Civil Engineering Positions

The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced that it has received authorization to recruit for and fill 25 engineering positions as part of the department's continuing efforts to design and administer multi-modal improvement projects in a timely and efficient manner.

"Engineers play an essential role in virtually all improvement projects the department undertakes, from new roads and rails, to the New Britain to Hartford busway,” Commissioner Ralph J. Carpenter said.  “With the addition of these 25 positions, the department will be better positioned to initiate and complete projects in the shortest time frames possible."

Since Governor Rell took office, the State has provided more than 3.8 billion dollars for Connecticut’s transportation system, which equates to multiple improvement projects - all requiring the particular attention of civil engineers.  The 25 new engineering jobs bring the total of new hires to 75 positions to meet the DOT’s operational needs.

"The department currently has numerous construction and design projects underway to improve our road and rail systems,” Commissioner Carpenter said.  “We understand how important it is to keep these important initiatives moving forward and the new positions will boost the number of key staff we have to plan, review, and administer these projects."

The department will aggressively recruit for civil engineers through attendance at college fairs, placement fairs, the CT DOL Labor Fair, and via advertisement in newspapers, periodicals and websites.
