2006 Governor’s Care and Share Food Drive most successful ever in ConnDOT History

Connecticut Department of Transportation employees have just capped their most successful effort yet in support of the Governor’s Care and Share food drive – donating more food and money to Connecticut Food Banks than in any previous year.

At a ceremony at the DOT headquarters in Newington, Commissioner Carpenter thanked all the DOT staff that helped to make this year’s food drive, between November 14 and December 12, 2006, such a success.

“I wish to extend my personal gratitude to all the employees who contributed food, money and their time to make this year’s food drive such an incredible success,” said Commissioner Ralph J. Carpenter.

The 2006 Governor’s Care and Share Food Drive saw ConnDOT employees donate 30,282 pounds of food and over $6,600 to help feed the hungry in the State of Connecticut. In addition to food donations, with every dollar donated, CT Foodbank and Foodshare are able to purchase seven pounds of food, equating to an additional 46,200 pounds, bringing this year’s total weight contribution to over 76,000 pounds.

“Over each of the last five years, the department has donated more than the previous year. ‘Above and beyond the call of duty’ really are the words that best describe what took place during this year’s event,” added the Commissioner. “76,000 pounds of food really is hard to fathom. I want to thank everyone for their commitment to this important holiday event.”
