The Department of Transportation announced today that beginning on or about September 1, 2005, Empire Paving will begin work on the reconstruction of Route 66 in Middlefield and Middletown, between Jackson Road and Washington Plaza.

The reconstruction will transform the existing one lane in each direction to two lanes in each direction.  Turning lanes and new traffic signals will be installed at various intersections within construction limits.

Motorists can expect some disruption in normal traffic operations during the reconstruction.  There will be at least one travel lane open in each direction at all times.

The project is scheduled to be completed by October 23, 2007.
