The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) today announced a new late night train schedule for the New Haven and Branch Lines beginning October 2 to meet the needs of the “night-out” ridership.  Additional trains have been added to address the expanded late-night inbound and outbound service. New trains include an expanded and restructured late-night service after 11 p.m. from Grand Central seven days a week with last train departing at 1:50 a.m.  Also a late-night train departing from New Haven seven days a week departing at 12:01 a.m., making most local stops through Stamford, 125th Street and Grand Central. MTA Metro North, which operates the New Haven and Branch lines for CDOT, will begin the additional late night trains beginning October 2nd.

New late night trains added to Outbound Service (Grand Central-New Haven):

  • 12:43 a.m. Stamford Local will now depart 18 minutes earlier, 12:25 a.m.
  • A new local train departing Grand Central at 1:05 a.m., will make all stops to New Haven.
  • A new express train will depart Grand Central at 1:12 a.m., making all stops between Stamford and New Haven.
  • The last train of the day, a local train to New Haven, which now departs at1:30 a.m. will depart at 1:50 a.m.
  • New late night service to New Canaan will now connect with the 12:22 a.m. train from Grand Central extending branch service by one hour seven days a week.

New late night trains added to Inbound Service (New Haven – Grand Central):

  • A new express train will be departing New Haven at 12:01 a.m. and arrive in Grand Central at 1:42 a.m.
  • The 11:18 p.m. express from New Haven will now depart 9 minutes earlier at 11:09 p.m.
  • New late night service from New Canaan departing at 12:37 a.m. and connecting in Stamford with the 12:01 a.m. train from New Haven, will extend branch service by one hour seven days a week.

“These new and more frequent late night trains are in response to requests from Manhattan theatergoers, opera and symphony attendees whose performances finish late and at various times.  In addition, many visitors to the suburbs who attend late night dinner parties and cultural events also were looking for needed transportation back to NYC at later hours,” said CDOT Commissioner Stephen Korta, II.  “The New Haven Line is one of the busiest rail services in the country on a daily basis.  As we expand to provide service to the many different commuters, we look forward to a reliable and customer-friendly service day and night.”
