Hartford, Conn. -- State Transportation Commissioner Stephen E. Korta, II announced today upcoming ramp and lane closures on I-84 and Route 70 in Cheshire.

The I-84 eastbound on-ramp from Route 70 (Exit 26) will be closed from Friday, August 26th at 9 p.m. until Monday, August 29th at 6 a.m. In addition, traffic on Route 70 in the vicinity of Exit 26 will be shifted and may be stopped for periods not to exceed 10 minutes. Traffic intending to access I-84 eastbound will be detoured from Route 70 onto I-84 westbound to Scott Road (Exit 25), and then back onto I-84 eastbound. This detour will be controlled by a combination of police officers, variable message signs, post-mounted signs and traffic drums. These closures will facilitate construction of the intersection of I-84 and Route 70 and the connecting ramps.

These lane and ramp closures are part of the widening and interchange improvement projects on I-84 in Cheshire and Waterbury. The projects will result in an additional lane in each direction between I-691 in Cheshire and just east of Exit 25 (Scott Road) in Waterbury. Several interchange ramps will be improved and relocated, and new ramps will be built at Austin Road (Exit 25A).
