Bridge Maintenance Facility Replacement in Franklin

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the replacement of the Bridge Maintenance Facility in Franklin will begin on April 28, 2024. CTDOT Project No. 0052-0092 was awarded to Nosal Builders, Inc. at $15,236,461.37 on March 14, 2024, and is scheduled to be completed on November 24, 2025. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich.

The existing bridge maintenance facility in Franklin which supports maintenance operations was erected circa 1956 with no major renovations since. By today’s standards, the facility is functionally obsolete and not in compliance with current fire, safety, OSHA, and ADA codes. This project will construct a new compliant bridge maintenance building, which will consist of approximately 13,310 square feet of bay area including a wash bay, and a 5,005 square foot office area. The new building will be steel frame construction with exterior steel siding and masonry. Site improvements include the relocation of the existing motor fuel island, installation of a retaining wall, drainage, new pavement parking lot and pavement markings, hooped storage shed, and new exterior site lighting. Additionally, a primary stormwater treatment basin, dumpster pad, and salt shed loading ramp will be installed.
