Beam End Repairs on I-91 in Cromwell, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the continuation of construction for a bridge rehabilitation project along I-91 in Wethersfield, Rocky Hill, and Cromwell on May 5, 2024. The project involves bridge repairs at 17 locations in the Greater Hartford area. The project includes I-91 northbound over the Mattabesset River in Cromwell, West Street over I-91 in Rocky Hill, and I-91 over the Wethersfield Cove in Wethersfield.

CTDOT Project No. 0171-0484 was awarded to McNamee Construction Co, Inc. at a cost of $19,674,000 on December 22, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed by November 14, 2025.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

I-91 North over Mattabesset River (just prior to Exit 21) in Cromwell

A temporary barrier will be installed on the left lane of the bridge with the three travel lanes shifted to provide access to the underside of the bridge. Temporary night-time lane closures are to be expected from 6:00 p.m. -6:00 a.m., typically Sunday-Thursday nights.

West Street over I-91 (around Exit 23) in Rocky Hill

Single lane closures will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, and multi-lane nightly closures, typically Sunday-Thursday nights. from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. are to be expected. Construction activities will occur behind railing on the interstate whenever possible.

I-91 over Wethersfield Cove (between exits 26 and 27) in Wethersfield

Lane shifts with the installation of a temporary barrier for access to the underside of the bridge will be in effect. Temporary night-time lane closures are to be expected from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday-Thursday.
