The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to rehabilitate Bridge No. 00417, which carries State Route 3 over Great Meadow Road and the Connecticut River connecting Wethersfield and Glastonbury.
The purpose of this project, currently early in the design stage, is to address deficiencies of the existing structure. The existing structure was originally constructed in 1957 and undergone significant modifications in 1985, 2007 and 2012. The bridge is a two-girder structure composed of a floor beam and stringer system. It is comprised of 14 spans totaling 2,393 feet in length including two 319-foot spans over the river.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in May of 2025, with construction anticipated to start in Spring 2026, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. The design and construction of this project will be undertaken with 80 percent Federal and 20 percent State funds.
It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development. A Public Information Meeting will be conducted upon the completion of the preliminary design. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
If anyone from the public has any questions or comments on this project, they are encouraged to contact Bao K. Chuong, Transportation Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-3316 or by e-mail at Bao.Chuong@ct.gov. Please make reference to State Project No. 0053-0199.
