Median Construction on Route 9 in Middletown

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the commencement of median and bridge construction on Route 9 Northbound and Southbound between Washington Street (Exit 23C) and Route 17 (Exit 23A) starting on August 7, 2023.

In preparation for the replacement of the Route 9 bridge over Union Street in Middletown, the median barrier will be removed and paved to allow for future traffic shifts necessary to perform the bridge work scheduled over the next two years. Motorists are advised to allow for extra travel time.

This work is a part of the Reconfiguration of the Route 17 On-ramp to Route 9 Northbound Project in Middletown and is part of the CTDOT safety improvement initiative to mitigate front-to-rear crashes at the ramp entrance to Route 9 northbound.

DOT Project No. 0082-0316 was awarded to Middlesex Corporation at a cost of $50,426,231.20 on February 10, 2023 and is scheduled to be completed October 15, 2026.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1, Rocky Hill, CT.
