Exit Numbers Changing on Route 72 from Plainville to New Britain

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that exit numbering will be revised on Route 72 both Eastbound and Westbound from Plainville to New Britain beginning on February 26, 2023, weather permitting.

This project consists of the exit renumbering and replacement of highway signs along the Route 72 corridor that have reached or exceeded their useful life. The exits are being renumbered to mileage-based numbering to conform to Federal Standards and is part of a multi-year effort on all of the State’s highways.

Motorists can expect to see both old and new exit numbers displayed throughout the transition for a few days while work progresses. Variable message signs will be advising motorists in the area for the week prior to work.  The work is anticipated to be completed within one week.

DOT Project No. 0007-0189 was awarded to The Quaker Corporation at a cost of $16,357,495.05 on October 25, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed April 21, 2023.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Berlin, Cromwell, New Britain, Newington, Farmington, and Plainville.

LANE CLOSURE INFO
