The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that exit numbering will be revised on Interstate 691 both Eastbound and Westbound from Cheshire to Middlefield beginning on April 24, 2023, weather permitting.
This project consists of resurfacing, drainage upgrades, guiderail replacement, minor bridge work, illuminations upgrades, and sign replacement. The roadway project limits extend from Route 5 to west of Route 322, in the Town of Southington and the City of Meriden. Construction limits for this project will extend eastward to to include illumination upgrades and from the Interstate 84 and Interstate 691 interchange to the limited access sections of Route 66 to incorporate the replacement of traffic signs throughout the corridor. The exits are being renumbered to mileage-based numbering to conform to Federal standards and is part of a multi-year effort on all of the State’s highways. Motorists can expect to see both old and new exit numbers displayed throughout the transition for a few days while work progresses. Variable message signs will be advising motorists in the area for the week prior to work.
DOT Project No. 0079-0244 was awarded to Manafort Brothers Inc. at a cost of $48,865,177.75 on January 15, 2021 and is scheduled to be completed July 23, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 4 in in Thomaston.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
There will be temporary lane and shoulder closures on Interstate 691 eastbound and westbound progressing through the project. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zones. On I-691 in the Eastbound direction Monday and Tuesday 7:00pm to 6:00am, Wednesday through Saturday 8:00pm to 6:00am and Sundays 6:00pm to 6:00am. On I-691 in the westbound direction work hours are Monday and Tuesday 8:00pm to 6:00am and Wednesday through Sunday 9:00pm to 6:00am.
