Detour Scheduled for Rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00489 Route 66 over the New England Central Railroad in Windham

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the full superstructure replacement of Bridge No. 00489 on Route 66 over the New England Central Railroad will take place April 21, 2023 to April 24, 2023 in Windham.

The bridge deck will be removed and replaced with precast bridge units (PBUs) in one weekend for a total of 57 hours. Traffic will be detoured during this time. In case of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the following weekend April 28 through May 1 will be used with the same hours of closure.

DOT Project No. 0163-0196 was awarded to McNamee Construction Corp at a cost of $9,751,867.00 on March 26, 2020 and is scheduled to be completed July 18, 2023.  This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 2 in Norwich, CT.

 

DETOUR INFO

Route 66 will be closed between Recycling Way and Chronicle Road in Windham from Friday, April 21 at 9:00 p.m. to Monday, April 24 at 6:00 a.m. The following will be the detour routes during this time.

 

Route 66 Westbound:

From the east end of Route 66, stay to the right onto Route 32 Northbound. Continue straight for half a mile and merge onto Route 6 Westbound. Follow Route 6 until the expressway ends, then turn right to continue onto Route 66 Westbound. Detour signs will be posted.

 

Route 66 Eastbound:

From the west end of Route 66, take Route 6 Eastbound. Take the first exit on the right, then take a right off the exit onto Route 32 Southbound. Continue straight for half a mile, then continue back onto Route 66 Eastbound. Detour signs will be posted.

 

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
