The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of I-95 Northbound at Saugatuck Avenue (Route 33), On and Off Ramps to I-95 Northbound, and I-95 Southbound Off-Ramp at Exit 17 in Westport from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023.

I-95 Northbound at Saugatuck Avenue and ramp closures are necessary for the new I-95 Northbound bridge to be slid into place using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques. A new I-95 Northbound bridge is already constructed on temporary supports adjacent to the existing I-95 Northbound bridge. The old bridge will be demolished in place and the new bridge will be installed at the same location under an Accelerated Bridge Construction technique called bridge slide.

I-95 Northbound will be closed, and two lanes of I-95 Northbound traffic will be crossed over on I-95 Southbound bridge with positive channelizing devices, thus severely impacting traffic flow on both I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound throughout the whole weekend. Motorists are strongly advised not to drive through this area for the entire weekend.

The On-Ramp to I-95 Northbound at Exit 17 is scheduled to be shut down to traffic from October 16-31, 2023 and will remain closed during the weekend of October 20-23.

The Exit 17 Off-ramps from I-95 Northbound and I-95 Southbound will also be closed to traffic during this weekend to facilitate the I-95 Northbound bridge construction. Saugatuck Avenue (Route 33) will be closed to both motorists and pedestrians between the On and Off Ramps at this location.

The On-Ramp to I-95 Southbound at Exit 17 will remain open.

DOT Project No. 0102-0295 was awarded to Yonkers Contracting Company, Inc at a cost of $103,411,848 on April 30, 2022, and is scheduled to be completed on November 1, 2024. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.

DETOUR INFO:
