The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that single unit trucks that exceed 21 tons and swing/semi unit trucks that exceed 34 tons are restricted from using the East Haddam Swing Bridge, which carries Route 82 over the Connecticut River in Haddam and East Haddam, until further notice.
Vehicle weight restrictions signs, similar to the one shown below, will be installed in the near future.
Alternate Connecticut River crossings such as the Arrigoni Bridge in Middletown and Portland or Baldwin Bridge in Old Saybrook and Old Lyme should be used.
This restriction of specific vehicle loads is the result of the 2021 biennial bridge inspection.
Project No. 40-141, which involves the rehabilitation of the East Haddam Swing Bridge, includes improves that will allow weight restrictions to be lifted. Construction for Project No. 40-141 is anticipated to start Summer 2022.
