The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing the commencement of a road closure on Reserve Road beneath the Charter Oak Bridge on Monday, September 19, 2022 to facilitate roadwork.
The roadwork consists of reconstruction and drainage improvements on Reserve Road beneath the Charter Oak Bridge including a bicycle lane jug-handle crossing at the railroad tracks.
CTDOT Contract No. 0063-0703 was awarded to O&G / BHD, JV at a cost of $240 million. Work began on April 1, 2019 and is anticipated to be completed by November 30, 2022. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Hartford, CT.
ROAD CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFO
A portion of Reserve Road in Hartford, under the Charter Oak Bridge, will be closed to thru traffic from Monday, September 19 at 6 a.m. for approximately two months. Detours will be in place to bring travelers to Reserve Road destinations north and south of the closure.
Access to Charter Oak Landing will be maintained but will only be accessible from the Wawarme Avenue / Van Dyke Avenue / Reserve Road intersection.
The detour routes will be as follows:
From Reserve Road at Maxim Road intersection
- Head south on Reserve Road
- Right onto Maxim Street
- Bear left onto Brainard Road
- Right onto Airport Road
- Right onto Locust Street
- Right onto Wawarme Ave.
From Reserve Road at Wawarme Avenue

Head west on Wawarme Ave.
- Left onto Locust Street
- Left onto Airport Road
- Left onto Brainard Road
- Right onto Maxim Road
- Left onto Reserve Road
