Weekend Lane Closures on Route 8 Southbound in Waterbury Beginning October 15, 2021

For two weekends, beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday, October 15, until 6:00 AM Monday, October 18, AND from 8:00 PM on Friday, October 22, until 6:00 AM Monday, October 25, there will be lane closures on Route 8 Southbound in Waterbury to facilitate rehabilitation of Bridges over Platts Mill Rd and Metro-North Railroad.

 

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announces that for two consecutive weekends, beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday, October 15, until 6:00 AM Monday, October 18, AND from 8:00 PM on Friday, October 22, until 6:00 AM Monday, October 25, there will be Lane Closures on Route 8 Southbound in Waterbury to facilitate rehabilitation of Bridges over Platts Mill Rd and Metro-North Railroad.

 

The project consists of the rehabilitation and repair work on Bridges 03176, 03177, 03178, and 03179 over the Naugatuck River and Metro North Railroad. The proposed rehabilitation work will consist of the performance of steel repairs, partial and full depth bridge deck repairs, deck end/elastomeric concrete header repairs, parapet repairs and safety modifications, replacement of expansion bearings, substructure concrete repairs, abrasive blast cleaning and painting of fixed bearings, pin and hanger assembly repairs/upgrades, installation of keeper blocks, and placement of membrane waterproofing, and replacement of asphalt.

 

DOT Project 0151-0333/0334 was awarded to Walsh Construction Company II at a cost of $14,996,340 on January 21, 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2021. This project is administered by the Office of Construction, District 4 in Thomaston.

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO:

Motorists are advised that one lane of traffic in the Southbound direction will be maintained during the weekend period from 8:00 PM Friday until 6:00 AM Monday.

The Contractor will be allowed to halt Route 8 traffic for any period not to exceed 10 minutes to perform necessary work for minor items and/or moving barrier.

If inclement weather causes delays, work will be postponed until the following weekends.
