The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction activities for the rehabilitation of Bridge 01708 and Bridge 03374 carrying Route 2 over West Road in Marlborough beginning on March 15, 2021.
Initial activities include installation of advance warning signs, clearing and grubbing, installation of erosion control and installation of temporary barrier and attenuators on West Road.
Subsequent construction activities include the following:
- Replacement of existing expansion bearings with elastomeric expansion bearings.
- Replacement of asphaltic expansion plug joints.
- Repair of deteriorated beam ends on underside of concrete deck.
- Repair and strengthening of the existing steel beams as necessary.
- Replacement in-kind and painting steel fixed bearings at fascia beams.
- Cleaning and painting remaining fixed bearings and painting of outer steel fascia beams of the superstructure.
- Lowering of West Road to achieve a minimum 14 ft. - 4 in. vertical clearance while maintaining existing roadway drainage.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
- Motorists can expect intermittent temporary lane closures in the project area as the work progresses through Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Lane closures will occur on Route 2 and West Road and motorists can expect night work on Route 2.
- Motorists can expect a change in the existing traffic pattern on West Road. Concrete barrier will line the sides of the roadway and direct traffic into two 10-foot lanes in the middle portion of West Road.
COMMUTER LOT INFORMATION
- Half of the commuter lot adjacent to the Route 2 westbound on-ramp will be closed for the duration of the project. Pedestrian access from this lot to the express bus stops will be closed for the duration of the project. Express bus commuters should use one of the two lots adjacent to Route 2 eastbound.
DOT Project No. 0078-0092 was awarded to McNamee Construction Corp. at a cost of $2,114,000.00 on November 20, 2020, and is scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2021.
