The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction activities for the replacement of Bridge 02967 Carrying Route 49 over Wyassup Brook in North Stonington. Initial activities will involve utility work beginning on March 22, 2020.
The existing bridge is a 13-foot concrete span with masonry abutments and wingwalls, carrying 2 lanes of Route 49 traffic over an Wyassup Brook. The structure will be replaced with a 30-foot span, three-sided rigid frame which will provide five-foot shoulders and new metal beam rail.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
The contractor will not be permitted to perform any work which will require traffic interruptions on Route 49 as follows:
- Monday through Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
- Monday through Friday between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
*** Note: A weekend road closure and detour of Route 49 will be implemented starting 6:01 P.M. on Friday, April 9, 2021, and ending on 5:00 A.M, April 12, 2021 to allow for the installation of driven test piles for the new bridge. Route 49 south will be detoured to Route 216 east to Route 184 westbound. Route 49 north will be detoured on 184 east to Route 216 westbound.
The contract was awarded to Arborio Corporation of Cromwell, CT on December 3, 2020, at a cost of $1,450,581.00 and is scheduled to be completed October 6, 2021.
