Milling and Resurfacing Project on I-84 Eastbound and Westbound in New Britain and Plainville

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a milling and resurfacing project will be performed on I-84 eastbound and westbound from the Route 72 access and exit ramps to 0.14 miles west of exit 36.

The project consists of milling and resurfacing a 0.44-mile segment of I-84 eastbound and westbound from the entrance and exit ramps of Route 72 to .14 miles west of Exit 36. This milling portion of the project is scheduled to occur from Wednesday, May 19, 2021, to Wednesday, May 26, 2021. The resurfacing portion of the project is anticipated to occur  from Tuesday, June 1, 2021, to Friday, June 11, 2021. No work will be performed on the day before or after the Memorial Day Holiday.

This project is included in the Department of Transportation’s 2021 Vendor Resurfacing Program.

Motorists can expect lane closures on I-84 eastbound and westbound from Route 72 to 0.14 miles west of exit 36. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Sunday – Thursday).

DETOUR INFORMATION

The following on-ramp will experience short duration detours:

  • Slater Road - Motorists will be directed to the nearest I-84 on-ramp using detour signs. All buses and emergency personnel will be allowed through the work zone.
  • Traffic on I-84 westbound will be detoured during certain phases of milling and paving to Exit 32, Queen Street to I-84 east or west.
  • I-84 eastbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 37 (Fienemann Road) to I-84 eastbound or westbound.
  • Motorists wanting to access I-84 eastbound from Route 72 westbound will be detoured to Exit 32 (Queen Street) to I-84 eastbound or westbound.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to remain alert, drive cautiously, and to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
