The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans for construction of a new bridge, signs, and markings maintenance facility on Fowler Avenue in Torrington. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing functionally obsolete bridge and signs and markings maintenance facility at this location.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share their concerns with the Department to assist in the project's development. If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
The project involves demolition of the existing structures, and the construction of a new bridge maintenance building, and a new signs and markings maintenance building. The new bridge maintenance building will consist of approximately 17,900 square-feet of bay area and a 5,400 square- foot office area. The new signs and markings maintenance building will consist of approximately 8,000 square-feet of bay area and a 4,500 square-foot office area. The new buildings will include operational areas for bridge maintenance operations, signs and markings maintenance operations, private office areas, and supporting office spaces. Corresponding site improvements will be made and an approximately 6,400 square-foot heated paint storage building and a 2,400 square-foot cold storage building will be erected. No additional personnel or equipment are anticipated for the site under the project.
The present schedule indicates that final design plans will be available in November 2020. The project will be state funded.
