The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to replace sheet aluminum highway signs along limited access highways, statewide. The types of signs that will be replaced include but are not limited to Mile Markers, Exit Gore signs, Speed Limit signs, Merge signs, and Route Confirmation signs. Additionally, all “Old Exit” panels on I-395, CT-2A, and S.R. 695 will be removed.
The existing sheet aluminum signs have exceeded their useful service life and are in need of replacement. The scope of the project involves the replacement of only those signs that have exceeded their useful service life, have less than adequate retroreflectivity, have evidence of damage, or are no longer in compliance with Federal and/or State standards. Excluded from this project are signs that have been recently replaced or are scheduled to be replaced by other various construction projects. Also, signs on the ramps are not included in this project.
