The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of Route 97 in Norwich between Lillibridge Road and the Norwich/Sprague town line, beginning on June 11, 2020, and ending on August 26, 2020.The closure is necessary to facilitate the replacement of Bridge 02589 which carries Route 97 over Cold Brook.
Detour Information:
A signed detour route will be provided to direct motorists around the work area.
Heading north from the project closure, use Rte. 97 North to Rte. 138 east to a right onto Paper Mill Road. Follow Paper Mill Rd (SR 660) to Main St., to Bridge St. From Bridge St. turn right onto Rte. 97 north to project closure.
Heading south from project closure, use Rte. 97 South to Bridge St. (SR 660). Turn left onto Bridge St. (SR 660) and follow to Main St. (Sr 660) which then turns into Paper Mill Rd. (SR 660). Turn left onto Rte. 138 west. Follow to Rte.97. Turn left onto Rte. 97 and follow to closure.
About the project:
The project consists of the replacement of the existing structure with a new three sided 30-foot wide by 8-foot high precast concrete frame founded on micro-pile supported cast-in-place concrete pile caps. Precast concrete headwalls and wing walls are to be constructed. The project also involves roadway improvements at Route 97 including new drainage, bituminous concrete pavement at the approaches to the bridge, metal beam rail installation, the application of pavement markings and new signing.
The contract was awarded to ROTHA Contracting Co. Inc. of Avon, Connecticut at a cost of $2,490,910.55 on October 11, 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2020.
Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
