The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of Route 14 over the Moosup River in Sterling. The closure will begin on June 1, 2020, and will remain in place through August 17, 2020. Route 14, at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street will be detoured.
The closure is necessary to facilitate construction activities associated with the demolition and reconstruction of Bridge 00688 which carries Route 14 over the Moosup River.
Detour information:
- Route 14 East: Proceed on Route 14 west to the intersection of Route 12 in Plainfield. Take a left onto Route 12 and proceed south to the intersection of Route 14A. Take a left onto Route 14A and proceed east towards the intersection of Route 14.
- Route 14 West: Proceed on Route 14 east to the intersection of Route 14A. Take a right onto Route 14A and proceed west to the intersection of Interstate 395. Take the ramp to Interstate 395 Northbound and proceed to Exit 32. Proceed east on Route 14.
The project consists of replacing the existing structure with a precast reinforced concrete rigid frame structure supported on cast-in-place, pile-supported footings. The three sided frame will be topped with membrane waterproofing and a bituminous concrete overlay. The existing 30-foot span will be increased to 36 feet. The channel will also be widened along the west side. The curb-to-curb width of the bridge will increase slightly to 37’-8”. A new 5-foot sidewalk will be constructed across the bridge along the north side.
DOT Project No. 0136-0073 was awarded to New England Road Inc. at a cost of $1,908,168.11 on December 10, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2020.
