The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of work for the replacement of Bridges 00488 and 00489 which carry Route 66 over P&W and NECR in Windham.
The scope of work for Bridge 00488 includes rehabilitation of both the superstructure and substructure. The existing steel trusses will be fully blast-cleaned, painted and repaired. Included in the superstructure rehabilitation is the replacement of the sidewalk slabs and concrete deck patching.
The scope of work for Bridge 00489 includes a full superstructure replacement and repairs to the substructure. The superstructure will be replaced during an accelerated weekend closure of Route 66 using Prefabricated Bridge Units (PBU’s) consisting of weathering steel plate girders and a concrete deck. The closure is tentatively scheduled for May of 2021.
DOT Project No. 0163-0196 was awarded to McNamee Construction Corp. at a cost of $9,751,867 on March 26, 2020, and is scheduled to be completed by July 21, 2021.

Alternating one way traffic may occur Monday through Friday 9 AM to 3 PM and 6 PM to 6 AM. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone.
