The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Bridge 02708 carrying Route 154 over Plum Bank Creek in Old Saybrook will be replaced during the remainder of this construction season and the first half of next year’s construction season. Construction activities will require two scheduled road closures – additional details below.
The project consists of the full replacement of the structure. This construction season will involve the relocation of existing utilities in order to perform the work for replacement of the bridge. During the next construction season, the existing bridge will be demolished to below the existing subgrade. A new bridge consisting of precast substructure elements and prestressed concrete deck slabs will be constructed. The overhead utilities to be relocated this season will be permanently relocated to approximately the same location after the bridge is constructed. A new 12” watermain will be installed as part of the bridge construction.
