The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a project will begin on April 1, 2020, for the replacement of Bridge 00688, which carries Route 14 over the Moosup River in Sterling.
The project consists of replacing the existing structure with a precast reinforced concrete rigid frame structure supported on cast-in-place, pile-supported footings. The three sided frame will be topped with membrane waterproofing and a bituminous concrete overlay. The existing 30-foot span will be increased to 36 feet. The channel will also be widened along the west side. The curb-to-curb width of the bridge will increase slightly to 37’-8”. A new 5-foot sidewalk will be constructed across the bridge along the north side.
DOT Project No. 0136-0073 was awarded to New England Road Inc. at a cost of $1,908,168.11 on December 10, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2020.
