The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public information meeting concerning the proposed replacement of Bridge 06141 (carrying Strawberry Road over Abbey Brook), on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Refer to the project webpage for more detail: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTEllington47-120.
The project is identified as State Project No. 0047-0120.
The purpose of the project is to replace Bridge 06141, which is structurally deficient. The existing structure, built in 1940, is a triple cell corrugated steel arch culvert with reinforced concrete end walls. The total structure length is 22 feet and the curb-to-curb roadway width is 30 feet. The proposed replacement consists of a precast concrete rigid frame structure founded on piles. The structure will have a 32-foot clear span with a 30-foot curb-to-curb width consisting of 2, 15-foot travel lanes.
There are right-of-way (ROW) impacts associated with the proposed improvements. Temporary and permanent ROW impacts are anticipated for this project. Minor property acquisitions in the form of a permanent acquisition or a permanent easement may be required for roadway or structural features resulting from widening the bridge on either side. Temporary construction easements will be required at all four corners of the proposed bridge for construction as well as for “in-water” work, both upstream and downstream of the bridge.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2022 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $1,580,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent municipal funds.
The public information meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views, comments, or questions the community may have concerning the proposed project.
