Virtual Public Information Meeting Concerning Proposed Replacement of Bridge 04446 Carrying Hop River Road over Hop River in Coventry and Columbia

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the proposed replacement of Bridge 04446, which carries Hop River Road over Hop River in Coventry and Columbia, on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. The formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. Refer to the project webpage for more detail: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTCoventry32-150.

The project is identified as State Project No. 0032-0150.

The purpose of the project is to replace Bridge 04446, which is functionally obsolete. The existing structure, built in 1955 and rehabilitated in 1989, is a two-span steel beam structure supported by concrete capped stone masonry abutments and central pier. The total structure length is 111 feet and the curb-to-curb roadway width is 12 feet. The proposed replacement consists of a galvanized steel structure supported by new concrete abutments and the existing stone masonry center pier. The proposed structure will have a total length of 130 feet with a 24-foot curb-to-curb width consisting of two 10-foot travel lanes and 2-foot shoulders.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements. Temporary and permanent ROW impacts are anticipated for this project. Minor property acquisitions in the form of a permanent acquisition or a permanent easement may be required for roadway or structural features resulting from widening the bridge on either side. Temporary construction easements will be required at all four corners of the proposed bridge for construction as well as for in-water work, both upstream and downstream of the bridge.

Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2022 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $3,350,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent town funds.

The public informational meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project.
