The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a virtual public information meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge 02475, carrying Route 130 over Pequonnock River in Bridgeport, on November 19, 2020. The formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. Refer to the project webpage for more detail: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTBridgeport15-339.
The project is identified as State Project No. 0015-0339.
The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the existing structure, which is comprised of multi-span steel and concrete beam approach spans and a steel lift span. The proposed rehabilitation consists of concrete deck patching, concrete beam repairs, steel superstructure repairs and painting, substructure repairs, replacement of the pier protection fender system, replacement of the lift cables for the lift span, mechanical and electrical systems upgrades and repairs, repurposing of the exiting control house, and construction of a new control house. Route 130 will be repaved within the limits of the project. The existing roadway alignment and roadway widths will be maintained after construction.
The structure is being repaired primarily due to the poor condition of the steel lift span and random deterioration of the stone and concrete substructure.
Construction will be performed in stages while maintaining two-way traffic. A detour utilizing local roads will be implemented during those times that the bridge is inoperable due to construction activities. There are no anticipated utility impacts due to this rehabilitation. Coordination with the water and power companies will be required to provide services to the new control house.
There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements. Temporary easements will be required to access the work area below the bridge from the shore and to store equipment and material during construction.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2022 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $26 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 100-percent state funds.
