The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction for intersection and safety improvements on SR 806 (Newtown Road) in Danbury. The purpose of the project is to relieve congestion, improve traffic operation at intersections and reduce crashes along SR 806 (Newtown Road).
The project includes work at two locations; one extends approximately 1,600 feet easterly from the Public Works Complex Drive to Plumtrees Road and includes the intersection of Newtown Road and Old Newtown Road. The second location is approximately 0.3 miles east of Plumtrees Road, and extends from 200 feet west of Eagle Road 1,485 feet easterly to Industrial Plaza Road, approximately 0.30 miles.
The work consists of widening SR 806 (Newtown Road) from the Public Works Complex to Plumtrees Road. The widening will provide two through-lanes in each direction and exclusive left turn lanes at the Old Newtown Road and Plumtrees Road Intersections.
The work also involves the installation of a raised median from approximately 200 feet east of Eagle Road to Commerce Drive. The island will be constructed within the existing painted island and left turn lane. Roadway widening is not anticipated for the installation of the raised median.
Intersection improvements are also proposed for Eagle Road intersection. These improvements include minor curbline adjustments, minor grading and new traffic signal.
Project No. 0034-0347 was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc. of North Haven, Connecticut on January 22, 2020, at a cost of $9,189,529.05 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2021.
