The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that an asphalt rubber chip sealing project will begin on April 28, 2020, on Route 21 in Putnam/Thompson, Route 49 in North Stonington/Voluntown, Route 89 in Mansfield, Route 163 in Montville/Bozrah, Route 201 in Griswold, and Route 668 in Canterbury.
The project consists of placing an asphalt rubber chip seal, curb to curb, over the existing pavement along Route 21 in Putnam and Thompson, Route 49 in North Stonington and Voluntown, Route 89 in Mansfield, Route 163 in Montville and Bozrah, Route 201 in Griswold, and Route 668 in Canterbury. In addition, crack sealing and surface patching will be performed to repair the existing roadway prior to placing the chip seal. Centerline rumble strips will also be installed in portions of these roads.
This project is included in the Department of Transportation’s 2020 Pavement Preservation Program.
DOT Project No. 0172-0493 was awarded to All States Asphalt, Inc. at a cost of $3,838,260.20 on April 2, 2020, and is scheduled to be completed by October 15, 2020.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 21 in Putnam from Route 44 to Route 193 in Thompson, Route 49 in North Stonington from Route 216 to Route 165 in Voluntown, Route 89 in Mansfield from Route 195 to Mount Hope Road, Route 163 in Montville from Route 82 to Scott Hill Road in Bozrah, Route 201 in Griswold from Route 138 to I-395 Southbound Off Ramp, and Route 668 in Canterbury from Route 169 to Route 12.
The regular work schedule for this project is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zones.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in the work areas.
