Resurfacing, Bridge Rehabilitation, and Safety Improvement Project on Route 8 in Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, and Seymour

The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (Department) Office of Engineering is implementing a resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, and safety improvement project on Route 8 in Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, and Seymour. The project begins at the Platt Road overpass in Shelton and ends at the North Main Street overpass in Seymour for a total of 8.8 miles. The purpose of the project is to provide corridor improvements that bring this section of roadway to current standards.

This project proposes to mill and overlay the roadway, including on-ramps and off-ramps, improve illumination, and upgrade existing substandard guiderail. In addition, this project includes minor bridge work that consists of bridge joint replacement, bridge deck repairs, and other minor bridge rehabilitation. Detour routes will be provided should ramps need to be closed for construction activities.

The present schedule indicates that construction is expected to begin in spring 2021, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with eighty-five percent (85%) federal funds and fifteen percent (15%) state funds.

It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with the Department to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the work.
