Installations and Revisions of Traffic Control Signals in Various Towns

The Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to replace existing traffic control signal equipment with new equipment to meet current Department standards at 10 locations in the cities and/or towns of Berlin, Cheshire, Ellington, and Wethersfield.

At applicable locations, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, sidewalk ramps) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. Locations with existing flashing beacons will be replaced in kind unless removal or other traffic control devices are warranted.  The Department will coordinate with the respective city/town during the design phase.  The following intersections are included:

·     Cheshire - Route 10 (Highland Avenue) at East/West Johnson Avenue - Intersection No. 025-205

·     Cheshire - Route 70 (Waterbury Road) and Routes 68/70 (West Main Street) at Route 68 (Prospect Street), Mountain Road, and Quarry Road - Intersection No. 025-209

·     Cheshire - Route 70 (Waterbury Road) at Marion Road - Intersection No. 025-210

·     Cheshire - Route 10 (Highland Avenue) at I-691 WB Ramps - Intersection No. 025-227

·     Cheshire - Route 10 (Highland Avenue) at I-691 EB Ramps - Intersection No. 025-228

·     Cheshire - Route 10 (Highland Avenue) at Fieldstone Court - Intersection No. 025-234

·     Ellington - Route 83 (Somers Road) at Route 140 (Maple Street and Crystal Lake Road) and Cider Mill Road - Intersection No. 047-210

·     Ellington - Route 83 (West Road) at Mountain Road - Intersection No. 047-213

·     Wethersfield - Route 175 (Wells Road) at Ridge Road - Intersection No. 159-218

It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.

The design plans for this project are expected to be completed in June 2021 with a tentative advertising date for construction of August 2021.
