Closure and Detour of Route 32 in Norwich Beginning on January 6, 2020

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the closure and detour of Route 32 in Norwich for construction activities related to the replacement of a failing Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) and associated drainage outlets that pass under Route 32 immediately south of Falvey’s Motors. The closure and detour will commence on January 6, 2020, and the duration will be approximately two weeks.

The work involves removing and replacing the existing 64-inch x 43-inch CMP and concrete endwalls.  The CMP will be replaced with a larger 60-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe and new concrete endwalls and wingwalls.  Utilities have been temporarily relocated and will be returned to their original location during the closure.  The pavement will be temporarily patched and then replaced in the spring of 2020.

A well-signed detour route will be established to guide motorists around the work area. Prior to and after the Route 32 closure, motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic on a periodic basis to minimize the duration of the closure to the greatest extent possible.

Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through work zones.

DOT Project No. 0103-0276 was awarded to The Brunalli Construction Company of Southington, Connecticut, with an estimated cost of $500,000 on November 6, 2019.
