Traffic Configuration Shift  Scheduled at the Intersection of Routes 110 and 111 in Monroe as Part of the Ongoing Construction of a Modern Roundabout
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that on or about June 4, 2018, the existing flashing beacon at the intersection of Route 110 and Route 111 will be removed.  Traffic drums and signs will be positioned and will guide traffic through the new roundabout configuration. Motorists are reminded that vehicular traffic approaching the roundabout is required to yield to traffic in the roundabout and that traffic in the roundabout has the right of way.
The project is designed to improve safety at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111.  The location has a high-frequency history of motor vehicle crashes.  With the construction of the roundabout, a reduction in the number of accidents is anticipated, as well as an overall safety improvement at the intersection.
DOT Project No. 0084-0108 was awarded to Richards Corporation of Terryville, CT on May 30, 2017, at a cost of $4,099,707. Construction began on July 10, 2017, and is scheduled to be completed on October 9, 2018.

OW/OS Information:
  • One eleven-foot lane in each direction (north/south) will be provided on Route 111
  • One eleven-foot lane in each direction (east/west) will be provided on Route 110
  • Four-foot shoulders will be provided throughout the project.
  • There are no anticipated height or weight restrictions
