The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work associated with the Route 8/I-84 Interchange (Mixmaster) rehabilitation project in Waterbury will require the closure of the Exit 31 ramp from Route 8 southbound to I-84 eastbound beginning Sunday, November 18, 2018. The ramp will close starting at 7:00 p.m. and will reopen the following morning at 5:00 a.m. This closure will be in effect nightly until Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour routes. 

Motorists should continue on Route 8 southbound and take Exit 30 (Washington Avenue). At the end of the off-ramp, take a left onto Washington Avenue, then a left onto Riverside Street and then a right onto Bank Street.  Follow signs to I-84 from Bank Street to the on-ramp of I-84 eastbound.

Due to height restrictions on Bank Street a truck detour is provided.  All trucks should also take Exit 30 to Riverside Street; continue to Sunnyside Avenue and then proceed to Highland Avenue to the I-84 eastbound on-ramp.

The project consists of the rehabilitation of numerous bridges located within the Route 8 and I-84 Interchange and was awarded to Walsh Construction Company at a cost of $152,960,945.27 on April 18, 2018, and is scheduled to be completed September 10, 2022.
