Replacement of Bridge 02968, Route 49 over Pendleton Hill Brook in North Stonington to Begin November 26, 2018
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the replacement of Bridge  02968, Route 49 over Pendleton Hill Brook in North Stonington will begin on November 26, 2018.
The project is necessary to correct the structural deficiencies of the existing bridge which is in fair condition.  Additionally, the existing bridge is functionally-obsolete and is considered hydraulically inadequate.
Bridge work includes the replacement of the existing structure with a new 30-foot clear span bridge which will consist of pre-stressed concrete deck units founded on micro-pile supported precast abutments.  Cast-in-place concrete wing walls and bridge parapets will also be constructed.
The project also involves roadway improvements at Route 49 including new bituminous concrete pavement at the approaches to the bridge, metal beam rail installation, the application of pavement markings and new signing.
The contract was awarded to Mattern Construction, Inc. of Sprague, Connecticut at a cost of $1,170,246.25 on October 12, 2018, and is scheduled to be completed in October 2019.
