Replacement of Bridge 01081 Route 71 over Sodom Brook in Meriden
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the replacement of Bridge 01081, Route 71 over Sodom Brook in Meriden beginning on or about July 9, 2018.
The project will be completed in four stages.  During these stages a new utility bridge and vehicular bridge will be constructed, along with new water main, paving, and line striping. 
The new bridge will consist of 4 lanes and new sidewalks on the North and South sides.  Traffic will be maintained with the use of a temporary roadway and bridge.  Once the temporary bridge is in use, the existing structure will be removed and replaced.  Traffic will then be redirected to the newly constructed roadway and bridge and the area around the bridge that was impacted will be restored.
DOT Project No. 0079-0229 was awarded to Shultz Corporation of Terryville, CT at a cost of $3,965,763.00 on June 6, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed on June 5, 2020. 
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Route 71 (West Main Street) and Bradley Avenue and All other Roadways:
  • Traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.  During Stage 3 traffic will be diverted to the temporary roadways, bridges, and sidewalks until the new bridge is constructed.  During Stage 4 traffic will be shifted back to the newly constructed roadway and bridge.
  • Lane closures can occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 am -3:00 pm and  between 6:00 pm -6:00 am and Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 pm and 10:00 am.
Capitol Avenue:
  • Access from West Main Street to Capital Avenue will be closed during Stages 2 – 4.
DETOUR INFO
A temporary bridge structure will be installed during Stage 2 to allow for traffic to continue on Route 71 over Sodom Brook during the replacement of the existing bridge. An additional press releases(s) will be issued prior to detour.
