Nighttime Resurfacing Project Continues along Route 72 NB and the I-84 WB Overlap in New Britain and Plainville

       

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a nighttime milling and resurfacing project will continue on Route 72 NB and I-84 WB in New Britain and Plainville through Wednesday, September 12, 2018.  Work hours are 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The project consists of milling and resurfacing a 4.13 mile segment of Route 72 NB and I-84 WB in New Britain and Plainville. The milling portion of this project is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 5, 2018 to Thursday, August 23, 2018. The resurfacing segment of this project is anticipated to begin on Sunday, August 26, 2018 to Wednesday, September 12, 2018. The regular work schedule for this project is 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Sunday – Thursday)

This project is included in the Department of Transportation’s 2018 Vendor Resurfacing Program.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 72 northbound from the junction of Route 9 to the Exit 2 off-ramp.

Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (Sunday – Thursday)

DETOUR INFORMATION

The following on-ramps will experience short duration detours:  East Main Street, Lake Street and Corbin Avenue.  Motorists will be directed to the nearest Route 72 on-ramp using detour signs.  All buses and emergency personnel will be allowed through the work zone.  Additionally, Route 72 northbound traffic will be detoured to Exit 6, east along I-84 to Exit 37 (Fienemann Road) and back to Route 72 and I-84. I-84 westbound motorists will be detoured to Exit 32, Rt. 10 (Queen St.) and back to Route 72.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
