Installations and Revisions of Traffic Control Signals in Various Connecticut Towns
The Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to install new traffic control signal equipment to meet current Department standards at 11 locations in the cities/towns of Berlin, East Windsor, Manchester, New Britain, Newington, Southington, South Windsor, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield, and Windsor Locks. At locations where applicable, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, upgraded sidewalk ramps, and crosswalks) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety. The following intersections are included:
Project 0171-0433:
• Berlin – Routes 5/15 (Belin Turnpike) at Route 160 and Deming Road (Intersection No. 007-208)
• East Windsor – Route 140 (Broad Brook Road) at Route 191 (Main Street) (Intersection No. 046-211)
• Manchester – Routes 6/44 (Center Street) at Love Lane and Morse Street (Intersection No. 076-249)
• Newington – Routes 5/15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Pascone Place (Intersection No. 093-245)
• Southington – Route 120 (Meriden Ave) at Route 364 (Oakland Road) (Intersection No. 131-243)
• South Windsor – Route 194 (Sullivan Ave) at Sandhill Road (Intersection No. 132-216)
• Vernon – S.R. 527 (West Street) at Ridgewood Drive and Regan Road (Intersection No. 146-210)
• West Hartford – Route 173 (Newington Road) at Page Avenue (Intersection No. 155-235)
• Windsor Locks – Route 140 (Elm Street) at West Street (Intersection No. 165-220)

• Manchester – S.R. 502 (Spencer Street) at Olcott Street and Hartford Road (Intersection No. 076-208)
• New Britain – Route 71 (South Main Street) at Ellis Street (Intersection No. 088-258)
• Newington – Route 176 (Main Street) at Dowd Street (Intersection No. 093-217)
• Vernon – Route 30 (Hartford Turnpike) at Merline Road (Intersection No. 146-239)
• Wethersfield – Route 3 (Maple Street) at Middletown Avenue and Spring Street (Intersection No. 159-204)
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.

The design plans for these projects are expected to be completed in July 2020 with a tentative advertising date for construction of  September 2020.
