Installation and Revision of Traffic Control Signals in Various Connecticut Towns
The Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to install new traffic control signal equipment to meet current Department standards at 10 locations in Cromwell, Manchester, Newington, Plainville, South Windsor, Southington, Wethersfield, and Wolcott. At locations where applicable, pedestrian control features (countdown pedestrian indications, accessible pushbuttons, upgraded sidewalk ramps, and crosswalks) will be upgraded in an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety.  The following intersections are included:
Project 0171-0417:
• Cromwell – Route 3 (Shunpike Road) at SR 524 (Berlin Road) (Intersection No. 033-216)
• Manchester – U.S. Routes 6 & 44 (Middle Turnpike West) at I-84 Eastbound Ramps (Intersection No. 076-257)
• Manchester – U.S. Routes 6 & 44 (Middle Turnpike West) at I-84 Westbound Ramps (Intersection No. 076-258)
• Newington – Route 176 (Main Street) at Route 174 (New Britain Ave) (Intersection No. 093-230)
• Plainville – Route 372 (East Main Street) at Whiting Street and Town Hall Drive (Intersection No. 109-222)
• South Windsor – Route 194 (Sullivan Ave) at Pierce Road (Intersection No. 132-214)
• Southington – Route 322 (Waterbury Turnpike) at I-84 Westbound Ramps (Intersection No. 131-241)
• Southington – Route 322 (Waterbury Turnpike) at I-84 Eastbound Ramps and Ruggles Row (Intersection No. 131-242)
• Wethersfield – Route 15 (Berlin Turnpike) at Arrow Road (Intersection No. 159-210)
• Wolcott – Route 69 (Wolcott Road) at Kreger Drive and Potuccos Ring Road (Intersection No. 166-206)
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.
The design plans for this project are expected to be completed in June 2019 with a tentative advertising date for construction of August 2019.
