Replacement of Bridge Number 02738, Route 169 over Gravelly Brook in Woodstock
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Route 169 will be reduced to one lane of traffic on July 7, 2017, to facilitate construction activities for the  replacement of Bridge Number 02738, Route 169 over Gravelly Brook in the Town of Woodstock.
The project consists of the replacement of Bridge 02738 with a precast box culvert and precast wingwalls. The existing structure is a 9 ft. long single span reinforced concrete slab founded on stone masonry abutments with a gunite cover. The wingwalls are also stone masonry with a gunite cover. Bridge 02738 will be replaced with a 10 ft. x 9 ft. precast concrete box culvert buried a minimum of 1 foot below natural stream bed material. The new structure will be installed using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods and involves a road closure of Route 169 at the bridge location.
Route 169, just north of County Road, will be detoured while the demolition and construction of the new bridge is performed. The detour will occur for a 4-week period between July 30, 2017, and August 27, 2017. Specific dates of the detour will be published in a future press release.
DOT Project No. 0169-0128 was awarded to New England Infrastructure, Inc. at a cost of $1,153,271.00 on October 19, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed November 17, 2017.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Route 169 in the vicinity of the bridge will be reduced to one lane of traffic starting on July 7, 2017. The work zone will be delineated with concrete barrier and will be controlled by stop signs. This traffic pattern will be in effect until the start of the detour.
