Replacement of Bridge 02934, Route 234 over Anguilla Brook in Stonington
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the project for the
replacement of Bridge 02934, Route 234 over Anguilla Brook in Stonington will begin on April 10, 2017.
The project is necessary to correct the structural deficiencies of the existing bridge which is in poor condition.  Additionally, the existing bridge is functionally-obsolete and is considered hydraulically inadequate. 
Bridge work includes the replacement of the existing structure with a new 49-foot single span bridge which will consist of pre-stressed concrete beams with pile supported integral abutments.  Cast-in-place concrete wing walls and bridge parapets will also be constructed.    
The project also involves roadway improvements at Route 234 including new bituminous concrete pavement at the approaches to the bridge, metal beam rail installation, the application of pavement markings and new signing.    
The contract was awarded to New England Infrastructure, Inc. of Hudson, Massachusetts at a cost of $1,979,397.60 on March 22, 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2018.

Traffic may experience delays Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 AM; and on Saturdays and Sundays form 6:00 PM to 10:00 AM.   Traffic will be controlled by temporary signalization utilizing alternating one-way traffic on a minimum lane width of 11-feet for the duration of the project.  
 
Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to use caution through this and all other work zones.
