Public Informational Meeting – Realignment of Route 6 and Notch Road and Construction of Shared Use Path in Bolton

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public informational meeting to present the findings of Proposed Project No. 012-003, a concept to construct potential improvements in the Town of Bolton, including the realignment of Notch Road and Route 6 and the construction of a shared-use path from the Hop River Trail to Quarry Road.  The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2017 (snow date of Tuesday, December 12, 2017) at the Bolton Town Hall, 222 Bolton Center Road, Bolton, Connecticut.  The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The study is identified as Proposed Project No. 012-003 (PP_012_003).
The primary purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about these proposed improvements and solicit feedback.  In the vicinity of the Route 6/44 interchange, Route 6 diverges from Route 44 with a compound curve, continuing to the southeast.  This proposed project will replaced the compound curve with a simple curve to increase safety and drivability for roadway users. Additionally, the relocation of Notch Road is proposed to increase sight distance and decrease crossing length for vehicles turning onto Route 44 from the local roadway. It is proposed that Notch Road be relocated further to the west and Bridge No. 04137 be removed. Re-grading and rock excavation of the surrounding area will likely be included in the work. Finally, the construction of a shared-use path on the northern side of Route 6/44 was previously presented to the public as Project No. 12-98.  This meeting will provide an update on the modifications that have been made since it was last presented and solicit feedback on the final proposed alignment.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this feasibility study.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 at least 5 business days prior to the meeting. Persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS).  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.
Findings of the feasibility study will be on display for public review.  Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss the study.  More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to discuss the study may contact Mr. William W. Britnell at (860) 594-3274 or by e-mail at William.Britnell@ct.gov. Plans are also available for review at the Bolton Town Hall two weeks prior to the meeting.
