The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the intermittent nightly closure and detour from October 16, 2017, to November 10, 2017, of I-84 eastbound off-ramp, Exit 48, at Capitol Avenue and Asylum Street, westbound off-ramp, Exit 47, at Sigourney Street and eastbound on-ramp, Exit 47, at Sigourney Street in Hartford.

The intermittent closures are necessary as part of the rehabilitation of bridges 03160 A-D, 03301, 03303, 01765 and 01766 on I-84 in Harford. The closures are necessary to facilitate various construction operations associated with the $39 million bridge rehabilitation project being constructed by The Middlesex Corporation. 

The I-84 EB Off Ramp at Exit 48 may be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting Monday October 16, 2017, and extending to Friday, November 10, 2017. Motorists wanting to exit I-84 EB at Exit 48 will be directed to use Exit 49 and follow the detour signs for either Asylum Street or Capitol Avenue. The Asylum Street detour will direct traffic to the right coming off the Exit 49 Ramp. Traffic will then turn right onto Church Street, then left onto Union Place to Asylum Street. The Capitol Avenue detour will direct traffic straight ahead onto Chapel Street. Traffic will then turn right onto Main Street to the intersection with Capitol Avenue.

The I-84 EB On Ramp at Entrance 47 at Sigourney Street may be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting Monday October 16, 2017 and extending to Friday November 10, 2017. Motorists wanting to enter I-84 EB at Entrance 47 will be directed to use Entrance 48 and follow the detour signs to either Farmington Avenue or Capitol Avenue. From Farmington Avenue, traffic will be directed to Broad Street, turn right, and proceed to the on ramp. From Capitol Avenue traffic will be direct to turn left on Broad Street and to proceed to the on ramp.

The I-84 WB Off Ramp at Exit 47 at Sigourney Street may be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. starting Monday October 16, 2017 and extending to Friday November 10, 2017. Motorists wanting to exit I-84 WB at Exit 47 will be directed to use Exit 46 and follow the detour signs. The detour will direct traffic to the right coming off the Exit 47 Ramp. Traffic will then turn right onto Sisson Avenue then right onto Farmington Avenue to Sigourney Street.
