The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of work on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge on I-95 Southbound in Groton and New London.
The project includes structural steel repairs, concrete deck patching, removal and replacement of expansion joints, illumination upgrades, and re-paving the Gold Star Memorial Bridge on Interstate 95 southbound. Construction activities are scheduled to begin during the week of April 17, 2017, weather permitting.  Long-term lane shifts/closures will be part of the construction sequence.  Additional off-peak hour lane closures may also be necessary to expedite the needed repairs.  The project is expected to be completed in November, 2018.
DOT Project No. 0094-0252 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. of Plantsville, Connecticut, for a cost of $26 million.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
The bridge deck pavement markings will be reconfigured to accommodate 4 lanes of traffic.  During the initial stage of construction activities, traffic will be shifted to the right side of the bridge.  The work zone will be delineated with temporary concrete barriers.  All entrance and exit ramps will remain open during construction.  Additional lane closures may be implemented during off peak hours.
